Simplifying support

1 in 2 people will experience a mental health challenge in their lifetime.

1 in 5 children and young people aged 8 to 25 are estimated to have a probable mental health disorder.

This includes:

  • 20.3% of children aged 8 to 16

  • 25.8% of young people aged 16 to 24

1 in 4 adults experiences a mental health problem annually in England.

  • 22.6% of adults aged 16-64

The cost of poor mental health in England is estimated at £300 billion annually, and the public sector has seen a rise in working days lost due to mental health-related issues.

Getting the right, tailored specialist support early significantly improves outcomes. Finding the right support shouldn’t be the most challenging part.

TACaccess offers a streamlined directory and engagement framework that simplifies access to therapy, reduces administrative burden, and lowers the cost of specialist support.

“TAC Access is game-changing for empowering children, young people and their families to have autonomy and choice in their therapeutic journey, to which both academic research and real-world stories from people we’ve spoken to can attest its importance. It allows children and young people to create a therapeutic relationship that works for them - one that they’ve had a say and a voice in choosing - and that makes such a difference to the efficacy of therapy, and then in turn to that child and their future.”

FAQ’s

  • TAC = Team Around the Client + Access. Yes, we know it’s an acronym, but it perfectly describes the service we offer. Everything we do is based on providing instant access to the best support for children, young people, and adults, precisely when they need it the most.

  • The client is the person receiving therapy. This can be a child, young person or adult.

  • Child or Young Person

  • Sessions can take place either online or face-to-face. Our extensive data tells us that over 75% of searches are for both. If the session is face-to-face, this is in a safe area approved by the commissioner, such as part of the educational establishment, a social care setting, professional or business premises.

  • A group of people who work together for a particular purpose. For example, this can be, but is not limited to:

    Statutory sector: Education, Health, or Social Care;

    Voluntary sector: Sports Clubs, Charities;

    Private sector: Corporate or Private Business not owned or controlled by the government or the Charity Commission.

  • An organisation that is responsible for identifying the need, allocating resources, and procuring a provider, e.g., a therapist, to best meet that need for the client, e.g., a child, young person, or adult in their care.

  • An educational establishment is any provision registered with a DFE number and therefore regulated.

  • You can apply to be registered as a commissioner with TACaccess through a quick online application process. Once approved, you have unlimited access to our UK-wide directory, allowing you to filter, review, and select from an extensive range of therapists.

  • This depends on the therapist's qualifications and experience, as well as their ability to meet each client’s needs. Commissioners can filter and select therapists, with relevant costs displayed in each therapist’s profile. Payment can be made by a client, a parent/carer, or an organisation, such as a business, charity, social care provider, health service, or educational establishment. The primary difference with TACaccess is that there are no agency fees, and all payments are made directly to the therapist.

  • This is the wide range of professionals that TACaccess has available to support you or your client. For example, they could be a counsellor, psychotherapist, play therapist, Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or other PSA or HCPC recognised professional.

  • At TACaccess, we are proud of the due diligence we carry out before approving therapists for our directory. These include:

    • Membership of a governed organisation recognised by the PSA or HCPC. Please note that to be a member of such an organisation, therapists must meet high standards set by the organisation, which include (but are not limited to) the level of qualification(s), insurance and abide by the ethical framework.

    • Criminal Records Check E.g. Enhanced DBS, appropriate to workforce;

    • Identity check.

    Please note: You must ensure that you meet your organisation's standards when engaging with a therapist.

  • Depending on your organisation, there may be additional checks therapists need to complete E.g. references, safeguarding training for your organisation.

    In these circumstances, you can collate a 'favourites' list and ensure your organisational settings only allow therapists from this preferred supplier list to be contacted.

    You can also collate a 'Favourites List' and send it to, e.g., a parent/adult to choose a therapist from, rather than the wider directory.

  • A person between the ages of 18 to 25 years looking for a therapist to support them.

  • All users can sign up and use the platform without any commitment or recurring subscription charge.

    The platform is funded by a small transaction fee of 6% (inclusive of VAT) levied against therapist charges for courses arranged through the platform. These are included within the agreed course fee, and so what is agreed by the course commissioner, parent, or adult is what is paid.

  • Yes. At TACaccess, safeguarding is our number one priority. We can arrange DBS checks (including enhanced). We encourage all providers using our platform to subscribe to the online update service.
